Zola Budd, SAF, Athletics

Budd was a member of the 1984 Great Britain Olympic Athletics Team.  She will always be remembered in the United States for her infamous clash with the late Mary Decker (Slaney) in the 3000m at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.  Decker was on world record pace after three laps when Budd overtook her, the two brushed against each other with Decker tripping and crashing out of the race to cause one of the most dramatic of Olympic incidents.  Budd was exonerated by video replays.  The barefoot athlete from Bloemfontein, South Africa just wanted to run and did just that, shattering records and winning medals in the process. She has won the world cross-country title and attained gold in the 3000m at the Europa Cup in Moscow.
