Professor Barrie Houlihan, GBR, Academic

Houlihan is a professor of Sport Policy at Loughborough University.  His research interests include the diplomatic use of sport, the politics of the Olympic movement, drug abuse by athletes and sports development policy.  His most recent books include: Sport, Policy and Politics: A Comparative Analysis and Dying to Win: The Development of Anti-doping Policy. In addition to his work as a teacher and researcher, Houlihan is a member of the West Midlands Sport Forum and has undertaken consulting projects for the UK Sports Council.  He is currently a member of the English Sports Council’s working group on sports strategy.
